I am developing a set of five 3-day weekend retreats for women* out of a deep impulse flowing through me, possibly but not necessarily toward a stream of livelihood, and I feel moved hold an informal test run of all five this year based in Boulder, Utah. I wish to make an offering of this year's explorations to friends, family, and local community. I am excited to offer this gift from my heart to yours, and I hope at least some of you can find a way to participate in some way.

I successfully led a version of these same retreats based in Eugene, Oregon in 2014 for a committed group of women. I feel they are a collaboration with the land, so I know that transferring them to our Southern Utah Landscape will change them significantly. I also see them as a form of group experiential art, where I envision the skeletal guidelines for the weekend based on certain guiding principles, and when the group comes together, we get to flesh out the experience through our participation and the unique qualities each woman brings with her at this particular time of her life.

The trust that builds when a consistent group of women undertakes these 5 weekends together during the course of a year is powerful. However, for this year's informal offering, I feel it is best to offer them as stand-clones with the option to do any or all of them as you are available. I would like to know who is coming as soon as possible, and at least three weeks before the start of each retreat. This is to give time to discuss and finalize planning based on the specifics of each group. (You could potentially join a retreat less than 3 weeks out, but you may have to go along with what's already been decided.) Space is limited.
The 2018 Dates:

1) April 26 - 29 Hero's Quest
2) June 21-24 Deep Collaboration
3) August 9 - 12 Heart Sovereignty
4) September 20 - 23 True Authority
5) December 6 - 9 Transformation

The retreats begin on Thursday evenings and come to a close on Sunday afternoons. They will be at cost: partial potluck, sharing any expenses that arise, with any donations toward continuing this work welcome but not necessary. Cost estimates and more detailed descriptions available on request, and somewhat variable depending on the needs/desires of each group.

The vision is for an immersion experience: for the group to sleep and dream together/nearby as much as possible. Lodging for most Thursdays will be either a shared room or cabin or our house, with Fridays and Saturdays mostly camping, BYO gear. December we will definitely sleep indoors. I will organize food and lodging, with input from the group, and I will send out detailed gear and food lists well in advance, once I know who's coming and what the group's needs are. Each retreat has its own logistics, and there is some flexibility for us to tailor each weekend to the needs, means, and abilities of the participants. It may even be possible to do part of one weekend to get a small taste of what they are about. This would be a question for each group to decide.

Each weekend has a corresponding season, element, direction, emotion, voice, time of life... There are many varying systems for aligning these qualities; I am working with the way that I have studied (a form of Chinese medicine) as an organizing principle, because I am most familiar with it and it works.
The outer movement over the land is a certain direction is both metaphorically and physically evocative. We practice relationship with self and other, with the land, with the Divine, with Creator in All, including ourselves.

Each weekend involves movement, voice work, meditative journey, dreamwork, connection with inner marriage and chakras, plant medicine (non-psychotropic), and both solo and group creative process. We will listen to talks by such women as Sobonfu Some and Clarissa Pinkola Estes during parts of our journeys. The retreats generally tend to begin with intensive preparatory activities and move into a more open, individual experience, ending with the group coming together to share our stories.

Conference calls or video calls could be available both before and after the retreats to help plan and prepare, and to integrate our experiences.

Please trust that each of these is appropriate for any woman, regardless of her current stage of life, for we all carry the archetypes within us. Much is waiting to be reclaimed and healed. We all have much to learn from each other, whatever part of the journey we are in.

Imagine what your birth may have been like if each newborn were seen as a wise spiritual being who brings irreplaceable gifts to our world. Think back to your first period. Is there any way you would have wanted your experience to be different? If you are a mother, think about the births of your own children. What would the experience of aging be like in a culture that values elderhood as the ultimate goal of a life well lived?

Imagination is a powerful tool. When we imagine together, we amplify the effect. Starting this April 2014, a circle of 13 women will gather to explore meaning, healing, and celebration of five major transitions in our lives as women. No matter what our age, we all carry these archetypes within us as part of the full expression of our being.

We will share five three-day weekend retreats throughout the remainder of the year, each beginning with a co-created community celebration Thursday evening and coming to a close on Sunday evening. We may decide to further explore together in the times between retreats if it feels relevant and helpful.

If you feel this might be for you, please CONTACT Amber 541…232…4379 or email themoonhurproject@gmail.com to RSVP and come to the informational meeting: Thursday March 27 at 7 PM (or arrange another time to meet with me.)

The first retreat is scheduled for the evening of April 3 through Sunday April 6. The others are from 7 to 10 weeks apart and may have some flexibility of dates according to the needs of the group. Once they are set, they are set. This is a yearlong commitment. A sketch of the five retreats follows:

1) MOLTING: The Passage from Death to Birth
Thursday Celebration: Sow the Seed, a wake for our lives until now.
Pilgrimage North: We explore the quiet, the darkness, the stillness between worlds, imagining our birth as a conscious act, a choice to embody on the Earth. We reconnect with experience in the womb, and invite recall of birth memory. Aspects of ritual, meditation, dark retreat, and breathwork will be employed. We will use what comes forward in this retreat to inform our creation of the next celebration, where each woman re-imagines the birth experience and welcome that is right for her.

2) EMERGING: The Passage from Child to Maiden
Thursday Celebration: Sprout, a party for the day of our birth.
Pilgrimage East: We explore menarche, coming of age, reconnecting with the vision for our lives that was clear before birth. We will work with self-knowledge, with boundaries, with forces of nature and growth. This retreat has a solo camping component. What comes forward in this retreat will inform the creation of the next celebration, where each woman re-imagines her welcome into a community of wise, loving, vibrant women.

3) EXPECTING: The Passage from Maiden to Mother
Thursday Celebration: Bud, a coming of age ceremony for our inner maidens.
Pilgrimage South: We explore motherhood, both literally and metaphorically, as we embody the power of the creative feminine to bring our dreams to life. We will work with sensuality, sexuality, creativity in various media, and the symbolic element of fire. We will bring forward what comes out of this retreat to create the next celebration, where each woman celebrates the mother/creator within.

4) NOURISHING: The Passage from Mother to Queen
Thursday Celebration: Blossom, a mother’s day opening reception.
Pilgrimage Center: We explore what it means to sit fully on our thrones, to be in service to community from a place that is grounded in Self, to overflow with self-love and self-nourishment enough to give truly to others. We will connect with the bounty of local harvest from Mother Earth, feeding and nurturing ourselves and one another. Our experience of this retreat will inform the creation of the next celebration, where each woman honors what it means to her to be Queen in her life.

5) ECHOING: The Passage from Queen to Crone
Thursday Celebration: Fruit, a coronation ceremony for our inner queens.
Pilgrimage West: We explore the gifts of the Crone, the Elder Woman, who knows how to grow deeper, wiser, and more radiant as she grows older. Our society seems to worship youth, leaving little to look forward to as time goes on and one’s value seems to lessen. In certain indigenous cultures, the goal of life is to become an Elder. Beauty is not just skin deep. This is a powerful time of life.

Final Celebration: Seed Anew, an honoring of our inner crones, and a celebration of the cycle of our year together.
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Historical post:
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We did it! We moved into a beautiful house in Springfield, Oregon with intention to hold space for the Eugene-area Red Tent and for other community happenings. The three of us have been living into the deep question of what it means to be live-in stewards of the Red Tent. Words like Mystery, Healing, Hearth, Relationship, Feminine Wisdom, Work, and Play have found their way into our conversations, and each of us has experienced profound transformation in our lives in these and other areas. We agreed to make our home the first priority for the house, and allowing for that, to let the Red Tent unfold through us at the pace that feels good and healthy for all three of us: in body, soul, and spirit.
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We held our very first women's circle Saturday, October 12, 2013! Six women attended and shared our ideas and visions of what the Red Tent could be in our community. We had a very productive discussion and planning session leading to more event offerings to be held here in the future!
Have you ever seen menstruation as a gift, or has it seemed more like a curse?

What if every woman’s first period were an occasion for celebration, welcoming her to a community of wise, loving, vibrant women? What if transitions in her life like motherhood and menopause were met with the support, guidance, and acknowledgement appropriate to the sacred initiations that they are? What if every woman’s period afforded her the time and space outside of the pressures of everyday life to fully receive its blessing? What if every woman’s period were a blessing to the earth as well, instead of adding more disposable waste to the trash heap?

The Moon Hut Project proposes to address these questions. We believe a woman’s moon time is a time of power; a time of creativity and regeneration. Modern society isn’t set up to support or honor the rhythms of a woman’s body, soul, and spirit. As modern women, however, many of us are required to engage in the public sphere much more than in any other era. To do so, women often make choices that are not healthy for themselves or for the planet. We vow to do what we are able to bring these problems to the light of consciousness and to help support women in making better choices for themselves, and ultimately for the world.

The Moon Hut Project strives to empower and connect women by promoting women's health throughout the cycles and phases of womanhood, including menarche, menstruation, motherhood, and menopause.

TMHPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05787247575153841661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201921005368581323.post-16793728612640246042009-09-11T10:55:00.000-07:002018-04-03T11:56:08.740-07:00The Red Tent Vision

Here is the original vision set forth in its entirety. The current manifestation of the vision could potentially alter some of the details as it becomes more clear how best we can serve our community.

The Moon Hut Project (TMHP) is a voluntary women's health organization. We believe women's health is inseparable from our relationships on all levels, and therefore includes physical, mental, emotional, interpersonal, intercultural, ecological, and spiritual health and wellbeing. In service to this understanding of women’s health, we include the following clauses in our mission.

I. TMHP is dedicated to fostering the Red Tent: a safe, sacred space for women of all ages to build community; to support, mentor, and celebrate one another; to connect with authentic rites of passage and initiation; and to explore and honor our innate feminine wisdom.

II. TMHP’s work to realize the Red Tent vision will take place in four spheres: A) in our home office in Eugene, Oregon; B) on the road in our Red Tent Village; C) on the web, both on our home page, and on networking sites such as Facebook; and D) in our future (potential) self-published newsletter/zine, The Moon Hut Project. *

III. TMHP aims to foster education, information distribution, and heartfelt exchange within the local and global women’s communities about the four M’s (menarche, menstruation, motherhood, and menopause) and about healthy, environmentally sound, and sustainable menstruation practices.

IV. TMHP will partner with indigenous sources of wisdom and women’s traditions wherever possible, and will seek to preserve the continuance of these valuable forms of knowledge from around the world.

V. TMHP will work to empower women to recreate the Red Tent in their own communities.

VI. TMHP is inclusive of all women, and strives to operate according to the values of the talking circle, where every voice is of equal importance, respect is given and received by all, and compassion and wisdom are in balance.

*A. Our home office (HQ) is envisioned as a headquarters for the nonprofit logistical side of things and as a Red Tent drop-in space for women in our community. The HQ will house reference materials relevant to the mission of TMHP and may provide a library of resources for women. It may also serve as a home for educational workshops and community celebrations.

B. The Red Tent Village will travel to festivals and women’s gatherings whenever possible to provide outreach and experiential education opportunities to women around the United States. Festivals provide a venue where many people can be reached, and there is often greater openness to trying new ways of being at such events. (We also think it would simply be a nice thing just to offer a safe, quiet, comfortable, and hygienic refuge for women who are menstruating in this situation.)

C. The TMHP Home website (here) expresses the vision and goals of TMHP. This is where to check to find out what's new, what's needed, and (in the future) to find resources and related organizations listed online.

D. The Moon Hut Project zine is envisioned as a newsletter for the organization, and as an independent publishing venue for women's and girls' art and creative writing.

TMHPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05787247575153841661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201921005368581323.post-35566730488886918382009-09-11T10:38:00.000-07:002018-04-03T12:05:20.228-07:00Tasks

Wish List.

This page needs to be updated! But it gives a picture of some of where we've been...

We have started putting together a Red Tent Village, complete with sumptuous decor and nurturing goodies for women who are on their moon time, and we have offered it at various women’s gatherings and festivals. The main Red Tent is a safe, sacred space for menstruating women, women who no longer menstruate, or women otherwise in need of the space to relax and receive the blessings of their spirits. Staff and volunteers would ideally be mustered to serve these women, for childcare, set up, clean up, and logistical support. We hope to eventually also have a community tent, where red tent staff, non-menstruating women and girls, and those who love and honor women can gather in the spirit of support and respectful exchange. Information about healthy, sustainable menstruation choices will be available at this tent. Eco-friendly menstruation products would ideally be available as well.

The Moon Hut Project has been incorporated as a nonprofit voluntary women's health organization. This process is on hold as community discussion evolves around the question of whether and when we want to continue forming as an NPO. (The next step in the government paperwork department would be filing form 1023 with the IRS to make our 501(c)(3) tax exempt status official. Any helpful advice on that front would be very welcome. Ideally, we would consult with a nonprofit law professional before filing.) For the time being we are working to develop our programs and strengthen our identity and presence in our community.

The community-building task is always on the table. For our mission to succeed, we need to network and reach out to as many women as possible. Healthy community is necessary to maintain individual women's health, and a truly healthy community holds a place for each individual. So please spread the word. Our Related Links page provides a list of relevant groups and services. Please let us know if you have ideas for more woman-empowering links. There are some exciting things happening in the Red Tent movement, including local groups meeting in some areas.

Contribute your voice! We invite you to complete and return our Women's Survey to help us define the need for our services in the future.

Eventually, we plan to have a home office that will serve both as HQ for TMHP and as a Red Tent in our community.

We have started collecting information and resources for a women's health reference library, currently housed in the Red Tent House. Please let us know if you have suggestions or items to donate.

If you are interested in being involved with any part of this project, including forming the vision in these early planning and development stages, please contact us! Financial support is also welcome; we hope to be set up to process credit card donations soon. Please send enquiries to axanthy(at)gmail(dott)com and we will get back to you.

I was one of those people who came to expect terrible cramps as an inevitable part of the first day of my period, sometimes two days. Since I was trying to avoid taking synthetic pain medication, I would spend the day curled up in fetal position in bed if I could afford to, drinking herb tea and cuddling the hot water bottle. But more often I would have to brave the public world while enduring this constant, sharp, gnawing pain in my middle. It was beyond distracting, and once in a while I would have to stop everything, double over, and just breathe. It felt like the pain extended to my lower back and sometimes into my upper back and thighs or my whole body, like a dull ache that comes with the flu.

On this particular day, I was able to stay home, so I was anticipating another day of tossing and turning in bed, unable to get comfortable. It’s no fun, but it’s better than going out. Then sometime in the middle of the worst of it, I decided to stop fighting it; I committed myself to just lie there and feel it, all of it. I welcomed every ounce of my pain into my body, trying to see how fully conscious and aware I could remain. I imagined the line of all my women ancestors, all of their collective female wisdom flowing into and through me with this holy bleeding, and I formed my thoughts into the words, “Grandmother, I am here. Please lend me your teachings.” I lay there on my back, as still as I could, and received the pain. I let it become me.

A strange thing happened after a short time. I felt, or imagined I felt, a tickling sensation like something small crawling slowly up my ankle. In my mind’s eye I saw a black widow spider, though I knew this was highly unlikely. Still, the image was vivid and frightening. My resolve to lie still was severely tested as it made realistic progress up my leg. It seemed like hours that I lay there sweating, distracted from fully feeling my pain by this mirage of a deadly but beautiful creature crawling on my body. I figured whatever happened, it must be part of the teaching, and so I must endure it. I breathed and opened my heart the best I could manage. Welcome, I thought. Welcome.

Then suddenly it changed, like an eruption of honey-colored light flowing up and out from the core of my being, thick and sweet. I relaxed. My intellect was overpowered, and let go for once. The pain was gone, completely. So was the spider. After a while I got up: no pain, just the familiar watery feeling in my head and limbs, and the heavy gravitational pull of my belly to the earth. I enjoyed experiencing these feelings, as if for the first time, without the cramps. I decided to go to the Saturday Farmers’ Market later that afternoon. It felt otherworldly to be in public like this. I felt so intimate with whomever I interacted with. My emotions were right there at the surface, and I felt really present, really powerful. I chose to be there, and these were good people, so it worked. It was like standing in two worlds at once.

Since that day, I have not had cramps. This part of my cycle still feels really different, but I know what to expect, and I’ve learned to have different expectations of myself at this time. I am just not going to function like I would on any other day, so whatever I choose to do; I need to be aware of that. It’s still frustrating when I have to go to work and keep track of mundane details when my mind seems to be inhabiting an entirely different plane. I wish all women could have at least one day per month to allow their sacred inner space to take over. There are divine gifts flowing through us at this time, gifts for the whole of humanity, and we need to be present to receive them.
